The Regulatory Council-Foundation of the Appellation of Origin Montes de Toledo is the control organization known for the oils protected by this designation of origin. It was constituted in 1998 with the goal of protecting and promoting the virgin olive oils produced in this area, while guaranteeing the compliance of the requirements established in accordance with the product specification as reflected in the Registry of Protected Designations of Origin of the European Union (CE Regulation 187/2000).
More than six thousand farmers and over forty producers and oil packing plants are affiliated to the Foundation, certified due to their compliance with regulation UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065.
This was the first Spanish Regulatory Council accredited by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) for the certification of a product under protection, guaranteeing the technical competence, independence and impartiality required by the regulations.
This independence and impartiality in the product certification process is achieved through the Certifying Committee, an advisory body of the Foundation where all the concerns related to the process are represented: from producers, pressers and packagers through to institutions such as the Council of Agriculture and Heath, The University of Castilla La Mancha, and Business Federations.
In order to meet its founding principles, since it was formed the Foundation has carried out an intense activity promoting products protected by the designation of origin protection, having managed to make them known both nationally and internationally. This has positioned the Montes de Toledo oil as a benchmark in quality within the olive oil market worldwide.
